Sophia Hou

Sophia was born in California on August 1st, 1990 and moved to Taipei, Taiwan with her family shortly after a few months.

In 2008 (after finishing up lower, middle, and high school at Taipei American School) she went to Jyochi Daigaku (Sophia University) in Tokyo, Japan to study Anthropology/Psychology with a minor in Political Science.

When university was over, she decided to chase her dreams and study fashion design for a year in 2012 at Esmod Japon, a fashion college from Paris, France at its Tokyo city branch.

Realizing that she was ultimately interested in fashion styling, Sophia went on to study at a Japanese fashion school, Vantan Design Institute, to study fashion styling for a year. There, she met the sweet and talented makeup artist, Melanie, and, while studying fashion and beauty at school together, they created Tokyo Á La Mode to show the world their passion for beauty and fashion.

Mélanie Favier

Melanie was born in France on May 26th 1988. She completed her literary studies in 2006 and went to an art school in Marseille, Denis Diderot, for a year. In 2008 she came to Japan for the first time and fell in love with the country and the Japanese culture. She decided to study more about Japan so she enrolled in Aix en Provence University. She spent her last year of studies in Handai (Osaka University) to get her Bachelor's degrees in Civilization and Art in Japanese Culture.
When she finished university, Mélanie decided to chase her dreams and study Makeup and Special Effects at Tokyo's Vantan Design Institute. There she met the beautiful and shining fashion stylist, Sophia, and together, they decided to share to the world their vision of beauty and fashion through Tokyo Á La Mode.
